Online check-in

Online check-in opens 24 hours and closes 1.5 hours before flight departure for international flights. You may check in via desktop or your mobile device with your reservation number. Passengers with checked baggage should proceed to drop baggage off at the check-in desks at least 2 hours before flight departure.

Checking in at the airport

Check in at the airport desks with your passport, credit card used to book the flight and other travel documents (e.g. visa). Check-in counters open 3 hours and close 60 minutes before scheduled time of departure.

Baggage allowances and fees

Hand carry baggage

  • Hand carry baggage should not exceed 118 cm (sum of total dimensions)
  • Economy: 1 bag plus one personal item, not exceeding 7 kg
  • Premium Economy and Business: 2 bags plus one personal item, not exceeding 14 kg in total
Checked baggage (international flights)
  • Each checked baggage must not exceed 158 cm in size (sum of total dimensions)
  • Economy: 1 bag, not exceeding 23 kg
  • Premium Economy: 2 bags, not exceeding 23 kg each
  • Business Premier and Business: 3 bags, not exceeding 23 kg each
  • Passengers who are members of Airpoints™ Gold, Elite, Star Alliance Gold and Koru have additional baggage allowance
  • Prepaid baggage can be purchased in advance

Advanced seat reservation is available via the online booking page or the airline’s call centre. For preferred seats and exit row seats, seat reservation is chargeable. In-seat power is available on Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 flights.

In-flight services

Air New Zealand’s in-flight entertainment offers the latest blockbusters and movies, music, radio shows, audio books and children’s entertainment.

The complimentary catering service offers fresh meals with a selection of New Zealand wines. Special meals are also available such as vegetarian, Hindu, Kosher and Muslim meals. Special meals are to be requested at least 24 hours before departure. Kosher meals should be requested 4 days in advance.

Skycouch is available for families with young children. A row of three Economy seats joined together, it creates a flexible and comfortable space for travel.

Air New Zealand offers an Unaccompanied Minor service for children between 5 to 11 years old.

In-flight wi-fi will be available from the second half of 2017 on international flights.
