Why fly with Tigerair

Tigerair gives its passengers a variety of ways to check-in for flights for their convenience and from the comfort of home or while on the go. Online check-in is available from 72 hours up to 1 hour before the scheduled departure time. Passengers can also opt to check-in for flights using the official Tigerair mobile apps where users are issued an electronic mobile boarding pass instead of conventional printed boarding passes. Mobile check-ins will also have the added benefit of having a dedicated baggage drop counter at the airport. Airport check-in counters are still available and are open 2 to 3 hours before departure time and close 45 minutes to an hour before, depending on the flight route. FAST Self-Service Kiosks (SSK) are also available at select airports. It is recommended that all passengers arrive at the airport at least 2 to 3 hours before flight time to ensure enough time for check-in processes as well as immigration and security checks. Tigerair also offers their Early Check-in (ECI) service on flights departing from Singapore. This service allows passengers to check-in earlier on the same day of their flight allowing them some free time to either shop and eat at the airport or have a short trip to the city before boarding.

Baggage Allowances and fees

As a low-cost carrier, Tigerair does not offer complimentary baggage allowance. However, you can purchase a fare type that includes check-in baggage during the booking process. The cheapest fare class with Tigerair usually does not include any baggage allowance, but for MYR85 (USD 19.10) more, you can purchase one with 20 kilogrammes or 44 pounds of checked baggage. Price may vary depending on flight route. If you missed out on buying baggage allowance during the booking process, you could pre-purchase or upsize your baggage allowance through the official airline website or by calling Tigerair’s call centre at least four hours before departure. You can only buy or upsize baggage allowance to 15 kilogrammes or 33 pounds at the airport. For cabin baggage or hand carried luggage, passengers are allowed two small items not exceeding the total dimension size of 115 centimetres or 45 inches and the total combined weight of 10 kilogrammes or 22 pounds.

Tigerair, as a low-cost airline, automatically assigns seats for passengers. However, travellers can choose to pre-select their seat during the booking process for an additional fee. Keep in mind that seating configurations differ between aircraft so options and prices may vary for seat selection. In you missed out on pre-selecting your seat, you can still do so through Tigerair’s official website or by calling their call centre. This is only available at least 4 hours before the scheduled departure time. Seat selector fees are non-refundable once flight booking is confirmed.

In-flight services

During the flight, beverages and snacks are available to purchase. Hot meals may also be available, but it is recommended that you pre-order before your flight not only to ensure you get the meal you want but also to save up to 25% of the cost. Pre-ordering would also mean that you would get to be served first. To keep the fares low and competitive for their users, Tigerair does not provide in-flight entertainment on all their flights. They do provide Tigertales, their free travel magazine for your reading pleasure.
