 Incheon International Airport

Located west of capital city Seoul, the Incheon International Airport is the biggest airport in South Korea, and one of the busiest in the world. It consists of just terminal building, both international and domestic flights.

Travellers in transit can check in to the Incheon Airport Transit Hotel. Rates are charged for a six-hour period and reservations can be made online or upon walk-in. There are massage services, meeting facilities and restaurants at the hotel.

For those who prefer to stay within the premises of the airport, there are shower rooms for travellers to freshen up, with soap, towels and hair dryers provided. Sleeping chairs can also be found throughout the airport for travellers to rest in. Alternatively, one can opt to go on free transit tours, which includes sightseeing around downtown Seoul, Dongdaemun market, Incheon Port and so on. Reservation and bookings may be done online at the airport website.

The Korean Cultural Street is located on the fourth floor and showcases traditional Korean architecture and performances such as Korean classical music, for visitors to experience Korean culture at the airport. Additionally, there’s the Korean Cultural Museum, where one can learn about the country’s rich history.

For those who enjoy scenic views, head to the Oseongsan Observatory deck to gaze upon a panorama of the entire airport or watch planes during take-off and landing. There is also a trail near the Observatory, where travellers can take a moment to immerse themselves in nature, as well as several gardens throughout the airport for those looking for some tranquillity.

The Paradise Golden Gate Casino, situated just two minutes away from the airport in the International Business Centre, is open for those who wish to try their luck at beating the odds. Alternatively, visitors could head to the Incheon Gold Club at the same location, which features an 18-hole putting course and a 330-yard driving range.

Families with children will delight at the Ice Forest, Incheon Airport’s skating rink. The rink has a maximum capacity of 150, with floors made up of special artificial ice that cushion the impact of falls to reduce injury. Admission to the rink is free, with the chargeable fee being skate rentals. Another option to keep the children entertained is the CGV Theatre, comprising of two halls with 240 seats each, that screens the latest movies and Korean educational films. There are also designated play areas in the airport with toys and games for the young ones. However, parents or accompanying adults are encouraged to supervise their children to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries.

For travellers who wish to do some shopping, the country's largest duty-free chain, Lotte Duty Free has set up a store at the airport. An alternative to Lotte would be Shilla Duty Free. Both shops sell items such as tobacco, perfume, and liquor. There are also numerous restaurants, cafes, food courts and fast food joints to satisfy visitors’ hunger.

With such a wide range of activities to engage in at Incheon airport, travellers will never be bored while waiting in transit or for their flights.
