Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Turkey

The Istanbul Ataturk Airport is the biggest airport in Turkey, and it serves the lively city of Istanbul. There are two terminals hosting domestic and international flights, with travellers moving between terminals via walkways or travellators.

Conference halls with large tables, comfortable office chairs and other equipment necessary for presentations can be found at the airport. There are also lounges with facilities such as wireless internet, photocopiers, telephones and fax machines for business travellers who need to do their work on the go. Other lounge facilities include quiet and comfortable rest areas, complimentary food and drink, newspapers and magazines, as well as televisions with a wide variety of channels. There is also a post office for mailing of letters. Free wireless internet is provided for all travellers at the arrival and departure terminals.

There are banks and currency exchange counters available at the airport. In addition, there are also ATM machines for travellers who are able to use their bank cards overseas. Smoking is prohibited inside the terminals, but there are designated smoking corners within and outside the airport. There are more than five mosques situated within the airport for Muslim travellers who wish to conduct prayers or spend some quiet time alone meditating. All mosques are open round the clock.

Travellers who wish to purchase last-minute gifts and souvenirs for their friends need not worry as there are gift shops at the airport open 24 hours a day. They may pick up items such as local produce, toys, and games. Additionally, there are a wide range of retail shops which showcase a variety of goods, including duty-free items such as skincare and cosmetics, liquor and tobacco. Be sure to check on your country's duty-free policy before purchasing your items.

There is a wide selection of food at the airport, from local delights to international brands such as Starbucks, so travellers will be spoilt for choice during meal times.

Travellers may use the Metro to travel to destinations such as Atakoy, Aksaray, and Topkapi. The detailed map can be found on the airport's official website. For a relatively affordable fare, the metro will get you into the city in slightly more than half an hour.

Buses hide 

You can opt to take the Seabus, which are ferries that service several locations in Turkey. Public buses are also available, but are not advisable for travellers moving around with heavy or multiple bags.
