The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is situated in Sepang, about 50km away from Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. The airport serves international and domestic flights via its three terminals, KLIA Main Terminal Building (MTB), Satellite Terminal A and klia2. Travellers may move back and forth between MTB and klia via a high-speed train known as the Express Rail Link (ERL) or the KLIA Ekspres, and the journey takes about three minutes. MTB and Satellite Terminal A are connected by a sky bridge and an Aerotrain, which travels back and forth in about five minutes. klia2 replaces the previous Low-Cost-Carrier-Terminal (LCCT) and is set to promote the volume of low-cost travel in the region.
The airport's design focuses on the environment, with a spotlight on greenery. The Satellite Building features an entire area of natural rainforest and KLIA is the first airport in the world to be awarded the Green Globe 21 certificate for pledging to champion environmental answerability.
Shops are abundant at both MTB and klia2. Ranging from fashion and accessories, liquor, tobacco, to perfume and cosmetics, there’s something for every passenger. They will also be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining options, with bakeries, bars, food courts, fast food, cafes, and restaurants. You may sit down for a nice meal at one of the high-end restaurants or grab a quick bite at one of the many coffee joints.
Within the airport, besides the exclusive airline lounges, there is also the Plaza Premium Lounge where all passengers within the airport are welcome. Food and drinks are served free-of-charge, and cozy seating arrangements and plasma TVs put travellers at ease. Travellers are also able to make use of shower rooms to freshen up, and stay connected to the internet at the business centre. A majority of the airport also boasts free Wi-Fi, so you may use your digital devices.
There is a reflexology and massage centre for travellers to get some rest and alleviate those aches from long flights. For those who wish to catch up on sleep while in transit, they can visit the Sama-Sama Express Hotel situated at the Satellite Terminal. A smooth check-in process is ensured as travellers do not have to pass through Malaysia's Immigration and Customs. Going to the boarding gate is also easy with a complimentary buggy ride service for all hotel guests. Additionally, a viewing gallery at the end of the Main Terminal Building has been built to let passengers enjoy the magnificent view of planes taking off and landing.
There are various ways of getting to and leaving the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The express coach service helps passengers get from the airport to KL Sentral and back. Other bus services include the Sepang Omnibus and Star Shuttle, which stops in different parts of Malaysia. The Airport Limo team also offers 4 types of car services - budget taxi, premier limo, super luxury and family service, for travel to certain locations in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Passengers may select from these taxis depending on the number of passengers travelling. Taxis on metered rates are available at the Main Terminal Building as well.
