The Gold Coast Airport, also known as Coolangatta Airport, is located south of Brisbane and Surfers Paradise. Handling both domestic and international flights, it is one of the busiest and fastest-growing airports in Australia.
Travellers with some time to spare at the airport may do some shopping. They may purchase goods from the duty-free store, such as liquor and wine, tobacco, perfume and cosmetics, confectionery and electronics. Passengers may also purchase duty-free items from the airport's official website. Additionally, there is a wide variety of other retail shops selling stationery, beach wear and surf accessories, fashion apparel and so on.
There is a range of food options, so travellers can opt for fast food from Hungry Jacks, or a healthy salad and soup from the salad bar. Passengers may relax with friends or alone at one of the bars, which serve non-alcoholic drinks like coffee and alcoholic beverages such as beer.
Handicapped or disabled passengers are able to access the airport easily as it consists of a single level. There are reserved parking lots for wheelchair users as well as handicapped toilets with railings and wide cubicle areas for wheelchair access. The vision-impaired can also rely on braille signs for guidance. Individual airlines may provide handicapped passengers with the use of wheelchairs within the airport.
Parents travelling with children may rent strollers at the airport. There are also restrooms with adjoining parents' rooms throughout the airport, and these are installed with facilities such as baby changing tables.
Business travellers may visit one of the lounges with amenities such as quiet and comfortable rest and work areas, complimentary food and drinks available all day, computers, Wi-Fi, printers, meeting rooms and shower areas. Other passengers may enjoy televisions screening entertainment and news channels as well as games and books.
Travellers who need to exchange foreign currency may visit one of the Travelex stores, which are open all year round for both arriving and departing passengers. There are also ATM machines located throughout the airport for those who need to withdraw some cash.
