Named after the 16th Sultan of Terengganu, the Sultan Mahmud Airport consists of one terminals that hosts flights to destinations such as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. During the Hajj pilgrimage, there are also flights to Jeddah and Mecca.
Handicapped or disabled travellers should inform their respective airlines prior to their arrival. Special arrangements will be made for them and staff members can provide assistance prior to boarding. Wheelchairs may be provided by airlines for use within the airport, and the structure itself is fitted with facilities such as railings and ramps. There is also a handicapped toilet big enough to accommodate a wheelchair in the stall, and railings to assist movement.
Travellers with insufficient local currency may visit the bureaux de change to exchange for foreign currency. There are also ATM machines if travellers need to withdraw cash for use. Smoking is strictly prohibited at the airport. Smokers are advised to visit the designated smoking areas outside the terminal building if they wish to light one up.
