Mont Tremblant Airport

Mont Tremblant International Airport is a private airport located in the township of La Macaza in Canada, approximately 46 kilometres north of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. The airport's official name is La Macaza – Mont Tremblant International, and it was formerly named Rivière Rouge – Mont Tremblant International Airport. The airport is situated 35 kilometres north of the Tremblant Resort. It is served by three prestigious airlines: Porter Airlines, Air Canada, and Voyageur Airways, which provide flights to Toronto. There are also seasonal flights to several US cities, including Philadelphia and Dallas.

Mont Tremblant International Airport was originally established in 1962 as a Royal Canadian Air Force emergency landing field. It housed 447 SAM Squadron armed with 29 nuclear-tipped CIM-10 Bomarc missles. The aviation facility eventually closed as an active base in 1972 after the Bomarc missiles were removed. The area used for the storage of the Bomarc missles was then converted into the La Macaza Institution in 1978. The former base was subsequently converted into a civilian airport, and then an international airport in 2000.

The aviation facility serving Mont Tremblant is quite small. The terminal building is a charming chalet-style structure situated along the east side of the runway. The runway is designated 03/21 with an asphalt surface and a length of 1,799 m (5,902 ft).

Services and Facilities

The passenger lounge of Mont Tremblant International Airport is very unique, far from the usual departure and arrival halls of most airports. Though relatively smaller, the arrival lounge has a warm fireplace, and several comfortable couches to greet the passengers after their flight. The departing lounge is equipped with Wi-Fi and has a small bistro that offers various beverages and sandwiches.

The airport also operates a fleet of executive shuttles that connect the airport to several lodging properties and hotels in the Mont Tremblant area. It is possible to avail of the service upon arrival, but to be safe, it can also be pre-booked in advance. Car rental at the airport is available only if booked prior to arrival.
