Ngurah Rai International Airport, or the Denpasar International Airport, serves the city of Denpasar in southern Bali. It is located around 13 kilometres south of the city, between Kuta and Jimbaran, and resides at an elevation of 14 feet or four metres above mean sea level. Named after Indonesian Republican I Gusti Ngurah Rai, the airport is recorded as Indonesia’s third busiest airport next to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and Juanda International Airport in Surabaya.
Where to go
Denpasar, the capital of Bali Island in Indonesia, is known as the entry point to the “Island of the Gods”. Although intimidating for first-time visitors, Denpasar is a multi-cultural city that has so much to offer. There are many temples, museums, and palaces around Denpasar that tourists can feast their eyes with. Not to mention the friendly and accommodating locals that you will meet. You can explore the city of Denpasar by foot. Indonesians pay high respects to their temples so if you’re planning to visit one, make sure to bring your own sarong or sash as there are no rentals nearby in the temples of Denpasar.
A less-than-two hour flight from Denpasar can take you to Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta. Jakarta, or known to foreign people as the “Big Durian”, is a city of a vast urban sprawl. As it is Indonesia’s melting pot, tourists should expect to meet different kinds of people. The locals, however, are generally hospitable. Experience some of the world’s largest music events like the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, Hammersonic, Java Rockin’ Land, and Djakarta Warehouse Project.
Fly to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from Denpasar with carriers such as Batik Air, Citilink, Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, Lion Air, and Sriwijaya Air.
For less than a three-hour flight, you can fly from Ngurah Rai International Airport to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Air carriers offering international flights to Kuala Lumpur are AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Malindo Air.
Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia’s federal capital and largest city. When in Kuala Lumpur, you may visit the most sought tourist attraction in the country, the Petronas Twin Towers. The city is also famous for its authentic eats and shopping centres that offers wide range of affordable but cheap fashion goods.
From Denpasar, you can travel to Sydney, Australia via Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport. The trip will take about more or less seven hours with airlines like Garuda Indonesia, Jetstar Airways, and Virgin Australia.
Sydney, or the Harbour City of Australia, is by far one of the most envied countries in the world because of how ethnically and culturally diverse the country is. Some notable tourist attractions are the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. The city also boasts a mix of old and modern architecture styles in their infrastructures.
