Tawau Airport is a public commercial airport located in the town of Tawau in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. The airport serves the Tawau Division which is one of Sabah’s five administrative sub-divisions. The Tawau Airport is the second-largest airport in the state following Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
The Tawau Airport is a single terminal airport serving both domestic and international flights. The airport currently serves just one international destination which is the city of Tarakan in Indonesia. These flights are operated by three airlines – full-service scheduled airlines Malaysia Airlines, regional airlines MASwings and low-cost airline AirAsia.
Tawau Airport is situated approximately 31 kilometres from the city centre of Tawau. A taxi ride from the airport to the city centre would take about 27 minutes of travel time and cost around MYR45-55. A cheaper alternative would be to take a bus from the airport to downtown Tawau. The bus ride would cost MYR10 per passenger. It should also be noted that while the bus operator has scheduled timings, this may be subject to change, so it is best to check with the airport's customer service for the latest information.

Tawau Airport, despite serving international destinations, is a relatively small airport. It is a one and a half storey terminal building with only two aerobridges. The airport just has the necessary facilities available including banking services such as ATMs and money exchange. Do note that the money changer is not open at all hours and may close relatively early. There are also some dining options available to buy food and beverages before the flight departure as well as some duty-free shops and retail stores for any last minute shopping. Currently, there is no free WiFi internet access available at the terminal.
