Cheap flights to Arizona

Arizona, also known as the Grand Canyon State and the Copper State, is a state in the south-western region in the United States. As one of the Four Corners states, Arizona is bordered to the west by California and Nevada, to the north by Utah, to the east by New Mexico, to the northeast by Colorado, and to the south by the Mexican state of Sonora. It is part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the 48th state, the last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. At present, it is the sixth largest and the 15th most populous of the 50 states. Arizona’s capital and largest city is Phoenix.

Arizona is divided in five regions: the Wild West and high desert lands in Eastern Arizona, the artsy urban communities in Greater Phoenix, the beautiful deserts and forests in Northern Arizona, the wilderness of South Central Arizona, and Western Arizona.

What to see & do

If you’re craving for outdoor adventures, exciting road trips, and breath-taking sceneries straight out of the wild, wild, west – then a trip to Arizona will surely satisfy your adventurous spirit. Wander around the Presidio Historic District area, home to the Tucson Museum of Art, which stands on the site of the original Spanish fort, considered as one of the oldest inhabited places in North America. You can shop in Old Town Artisans, lined with adobe apartments filled with galleries and crafts stores adorned with a surrounding beautiful courtyard. If you want to grab a bite, head to the popular La Cocina, which serves Southwestern fare, Arizona beers, with live music. Don’t miss the world-famous Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, with its famous formations very visible from the rough 17-mile dirt road. There’s also the majestic Chiricahua National Monument, one of the most unique and striking landscapes in Arizona. Shaped by rain, wind, and thunder throughout the years, you’ll see its volcanic rocks forming fluted pinnacles, bridges, boulders, and spires.

How to get around within Arizona

The easiest way to navigate around Arizona is by car, just like in most western states. Whether you’re driving your own car or a rental car (available at most major airports), you can easily access different parts of the state because of the federal and state highway system. You can take either Interstate 17 (I-17), which runs south to north across central Arizona and connects travellers to major cities, or take the 42-mile long scenic Apache Trail (Hwy. 88) through the Sonoran Desert. With the exception of most major cities like Greater Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, and Sedona, there is very limited state-wide public transportation. However, there’s a bus service available in Arizona, via Greyhound.

How to get there

If you’re getting on a plane to the state of Arizona, the main entry point is via Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, located between downtown Phoenix and Tempe. It is served by most major airlines and it provides non-stop service to more than 100 cities around the world. The second busiest airport in the state is Tucson International Airport, south of downtown Tucson and is served by plenty of major airlines, with non-stop service to 18 cities. There are also a number of regional airports throughout Arizona like Flagstaff Pulliam Airport in Flagstaff, Lake Havasu City Airport in Lake Havasu City, Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport in Bullhead City, and Yuma International Airport in Yuma. All parts of Arizona are also accessible by federal or state highways. Just in case you’re driving within state borders, Arizona law requires that each front-seat occupant wear a seat belt in a car designed to carry ten or fewer passengers and that children younger than five years old must be properly restrained. There are bus services that operate to and from the state via Greyhound with plenty of stops in Flagstaff, Glendale, Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma, among others. If by train, Amtrak offers two routes that traverse the state.
