The Cairo International Airport is an international airport located at Heliopolis in Cairo and considered to be the busiest airport in Egypt. The airport serves as the primary hub for several airlines including EgyptAir and Nile Air.

Cairo International Airport has three airport terminals and one seasonal flight terminal. Terminal 1 serves international foreign airlines such as Air France, KLM and Qatar Airways. Meanwhile, Terminal 2 and 3 operate as one integrated terminal using an air bridge for access. Terminal 3 is the biggest terminal and serves as the hub for the national airline, EgyptAir. The terminal also serves other international airlines particularly those under the Star Alliance group such as Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.

As an international airport, Cairo International offers many services and facilities for all passengers. Some restaurants and cafes are available throughout the airport as well as banking services such as ATMs and currency exchange kiosks. Duty-free shops and local stores are also open for those who wish to purchase last minute items before flying. Business and First Class passengers will also find VIP lounges at all terminals to use depending on their airline.

Travelling to and from Cairo International Airport to Cairo’s city centre

Cairo International Airport is located approximately 18 kilometres from the city centre of Cairo. A taxi from the airport to the city centre would cost around EGP30-40 (MYR7-10) and take about 16 minutes of travel time.

A cheaper alternative would be to take a combination of taxi and train to the city centre. Take a 10-minute taxi ride from the airport to the Helmeyet El-Zaitoun terminal, 11 kilometres away, for EGP21-25 (MYR5-6). From there, board the train to Martyrs for EGP4 (MYR1). The whole journey will take about 20 minutes of travel time. Airport shuttles and city bus services are also available for different rates and timetables. It is recommended to check with the airport customer service counter for the latest information.
