The Republic of the Congo, also known as the Congo Republic or Congo-Brazzaville, is a country located in Central Africa. It is a different country from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo or Congo-Kinshasa), which is also located in the same region in Africa.

The Congo Republic is bordered by Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Angolan exclave of Cabinda. Its capital and largest city is Brazzaville, which also serves as the country's major financial, political, cultural, and economic centre. Brazzaville is noted for its location on the Congo River, across Kinshasa, the capital of DR Congo. With the Congo Republic’s location in the central-western part of sub-Saharan Africa along the Equator, the country experiences a consistent climate.

Virunga National Park - The Virunga National Park, formerly known as Albert National Park, is a 7,800-square-kilometre National Park that stretches from the Virunga Mountains in the south to the Rwenzori Mountains in the North. It is located in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, bordering the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and the Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda. The park was established in 1925 as Africa's first national park and is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site since 1979.

Mount Nyiragongo - Mount Nyiragongo is an active stratovolcano with an elevation of 3470 metres, located in the Virunga Mountains associated with the Albertine Rift. It is located inside Virunga National Park, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, about 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of the town of Goma and Lake Kivu and just west of the border with Rwanda. The main crater is about two kilometres wide and usually contains a lava lake. It is one of the iconic mountains in the country.

Congo River - The Congo River, also known as the Zaire River, is an important river in Africa known as the world's deepest river form (with depths in excess of 220 metres). It is the second largest river by discharge (after the Amazon), and the ninth longest river in the world.

How to get around within Congo

Apart from the historical trains built by forced labour, other modes of transport in the country include buses, taxis, ferries, and trains. The country also has two major international airports. Getting around the Congo Republic by hired car is charged with the petrol. Drivers that come with the cars speak French only; but English, Chinese, or German speaking guides can also be hired. Taxis that serve the city of Brazzaville are recognised with their green colour. There are also shared minibuses and taxis that are quite cheaper. Trains in the country run along the Congo Ocean Railway.

How to get there

There are two international airports that serve the Congo Republic are Maya-Maya Airport in Brazaville and Pointe Noire Airport in Pointe Noire. Both airports have flight connections to most regional destinations and short to medium haul flights, such as Paris and several African cities.
