Cheap flights to Colorado

Colorado is a western state, making up most of the Rocky Mountains region (also including the north-eastern portion of the Colorado Plateau and the western edge of the Great Plains) of the United States of America. It is bordered by Wyoming to the north, Nebraska and Kansas to the northeast and east, New Mexico and Oklahoma to the south, Utah to the west, and Arizona to the southwest. The state was named for the Colorado River (Rio Colorado) because of the ruddy silt it carries from the mountains. Colorado officially became a state at the same year the United States Declaration of Independence celebrated its centennial anniversary, thereby gaining the nickname “Centennial State.” The state capital and largest city by population is Denver. Colorado is known for its expanse range of mountains, thick forests, high plains, mesas, canyons, plateaus, rivers, desert lands, and is also home to multi-diverse ecosystems.

Colorado’s location makes it a natural picturesque beauty, many of which is evident in its numerous national monuments, national forests and state parks, as well as federally protected areas such as the National Recreation Trails, National Recreation Areas, National Grasslands, National Wildlife Refuges and National Wilderness Areas. The state’s most iconic archaeological and geological locations are scattered throughout its national monument system, which is comprised of the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (home to more than 6,000 archaeological sites representing the cultures of Native Americans and Ancestral Puebloans), Colorado National Monument, the diverse Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument (see its volcanic ash-preserved redwood trees), the iconic Hovenweep National Monument, and Yucca House National Monument. Meanwhile, Colorado’s natural historic trails represent the European settlement of the Western U.S. These are seen at Old Spanish National Historic Trail, Pony Express National Historic Trail, and Santa Fe National Historic Trail. National historic sites like Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site and Creek Massacre National Historic Site tell the story of the European/U.S. relations with Native Americans. Some of the best activities that Colorado offers include snowmobiling (especially in Glenwood Springs), fishing (there are 6,000 miles of streams and more than 2,000 lakes and reservoirs to choose from), gambling (in Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek), hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, and skiing/snowboarding.
