Cheap flights to England

Separated from the European mainland with only Wales, Ireland, and Scotland for company, life in England has been relatively autonomous from foreign invaders. The Angles, Saxons, and Jutes settled here in the fifth to sixth century. They weren't able to have peaceful lives, however, due to the sporadic conquests of the Romans who have slowly encroached on their territory starting on 43 AD.

The Roman conquest has brought Christianity and other cultural legacies to the British Isles. Kingdoms such as Northumbria, Wessex, East Anglia, and others flourished in England, however, despite the Roman influence. Alfred the Great of Wessex, however, promoted the political unification of England. From his rule, other monarchies rose to take over the throne of England until the Parliament was created and given official authority to rule England and its surrounding territories except the major part of Ireland.

As the capital city, London offers many tourist attractions. Those looking for educational tours will be delighted in the various sites for learning such as Natural History Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum. There's more to London than its intellectual side, however. Royalty is especially beloved here, as many visit the Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, the resting place of many kings and queens. Tourists can also marvel at the Big Ben, the Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, and other fascinating landmarks.

A visit to Nottingham is also a must, especially for those who love the story of Robin Hood. There's the Sherwood Forest to explore where there are more than 500 veteran oak trees. Get an authentic taste of Nottingham-style dishes with a meal in Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. The highlight event here is the Medieval Food Night where tourists can eat lamb chops and drink ale prepared just the way they were in the medieval times.

The Yorkshire countryside is also a major destination in England. Brontë Country is one of the top sites here, where travellers can visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum. Filled with memorabilia from 'Jane Eyre,' 'Wuthering Heights,' and other popular works, guests can interact with like-minded enthusiasts. Special screenings of great film adaptations can also be found here. After that, a walk on the moor is also necessary, so tourists can experience the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside, the common setting of the Brontë novels.

How to get around within England

There are various ways to get around England. Public transport is usually convenient, as the trains and buses (or coaches as they are called in England) are maintained in good condition. For trains, there are three main routes coming from London - First Great Western, National Express East Coast, and Virgin Trains. Buses and trams also make the commute great for short-haul trips. It's better to book tickets in advance, though, to prevent any hassle in acquiring one on the actual day of the trip.

Once in the preferred destination, travellers have the option to walk around or rent a bicycle. Taxis are also fast, although this can depend on the peak hours. Hiring a car, on the other hand, can be costly as travellers might encounter heavy traffic and shoulder high fuel rates.

How to get there

For England trips, travellers will most likely land on London Heathrow Airport. It's the busiest airport in Europe, making it the hub of many airlines coming from all parts of the world.
