Situated on the periphery of Krabi Province, Krabi Airport is the main gateway to the Thai beach resorts of Had Yao, Ao Nang, Rai Leh and Koh Lanta.
You can get from the airport to the Krabi Town either by taxi or the airport bus service, both of which are relatively reliable and fast. Within the town, you have the option of choosing the adventurous songthaew or the more conventional sedan taxi. Songthaews are pick-up trucks converted into a shared taxi. They tend to be non-air-conditioned and slightly crowded as they usually ply fixed routes throughout the city for a set fare.
Krabi is a relatively small city located on the west coast of southern Thailand and it serves as the capital of the Krabi province. As the city is devoid of beaches, visitors typical head straight to Had Yao and Ao Nang or to other smaller islands such as Lanta islands or Phi Phi islands. Nevertheless, Krabi Town is an ideal location for those who want to spend a night or two away experiencing authentic Thailand.
Start your day right by fuelling up at the biggest morning market in the region. Located on Maharaj Soi 9, the market is a treat for your senses as it is filled with all kinds of fresh local produce and treats. There’s no place better than here to have a sampling of local favourites such as sticky rice, sweetened Thai tea and fresh, hot soy milk. However, do note that you have to reach as early as six in the morning, so you don’t miss out on the hustle and bustle of the market.
After you’ve gotten your fill at the market, head to the town’s most popular tourist sight, Khao Kanab Nam, also known as the symbol of Krabi. The prominent landmark consists of a two karst rocks that jut out of the water at curious angles and is also home to several magnificent caves filled with impressive clusters of stalactites and stalagmites. Visitors should catch a boat to the rocks, walk up some steps to the top, and take in the stunning views.
Another must-see in Krabi Town is the Tiger Cave Temple, considered one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the province. Found on top of a mountain, the climb up to the temple is a challenging one but those who make it up will be rewarded with amazing panoramic views of the area and the sea.
