Cheap flights to Louisiana

There is something in the air in Louisiana – people seem to be more free spirited here with an inclusive feel for various cultures. This must be due to their rich heritage influenced by 18th-century French, Spanish, African, and Native American cultures. Such a mix allows visitors to enjoy a colourful and exciting range of activities, such as the Mardi Gras and Hot Air Balloon festival, to name a few.

Other than the cultural attractions, one can also enjoy visiting the natural sights and wildlife of the Bayou State. The high biodiversity here has instituted various protected areas such as national parks and forests. Those going here will also go through low swamplands, coastal marshes, beaches, and barrier islands. Parts of large bodies of water like the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River can also be found here, which adds to the outdoor pursuits one can take part in.

What to see & do

New Orleans, the largest city in Louisiana, is also its most vibrant. Other than the raucous delights of the Mardi Gras, one can go around its captivating landmarks such as the French Quarter, the state's oldest neighbourhood. One can check out here Jackson Square, which features some of the local attractions. Visitors can view the statue of Andrew Jackson, which lies in the centre of artists and fortune-tellers. From here, one can visit the Cabildo, the former city hall where the Louisiana Purchase was signed. St Louis Cathedral and the Presbytère also lie here, which tourists can visit due to their designs and historic importance. From here, one can turn to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art to view its collection of paintings, photography, and ceramics. After a tour, one can then head to the bars and clubs for drinks and a look at the energetic nightlife.

The capital of Louisiana also makes a pleasing destination, with its variety of cultural and culinary delights. Other than the usual range of museums and galleries, one can turn here a visit to the plantations in the area. Elaborate antebellum mansions can be found here with simple cottages built in the early 19th century. The Myrtle's Plantation, a National Register house more than 200 years old, will allow visitors to view fine antiques such as Baccarat crystal chandeliers, Carrera marble mantles, and gold leafed furnishings. Travellers will also find it exhilarating to enjoy a meal in Baton Rouge, as it named the South's Best Foodie City for Groups. Cajun and Creole cooking are famed here, with some treats such as lobster and asparagus risotto, eggplant belle rose, and fried soft shell crab.

The historic downtown of Lafayette also awaits travellers who can turn to the sights such as Acadian Village. Those going here can follow the brick path around a bayou to see restored houses and other structures built in the 19th century. From here, one can check out the more flamboyant Cajun village of Vermilionville. One can watch costumed locals explain Cajun, Creole, and Native American history. Local bands also perform here on

Travellers will find it relatively convenient to commute around Louisiana. Those going here can take the bus going to different parts of the city, or take those that go to other areas within the state. Boat tours can also be arranged, which can be fun and leisurely. Bicycles are recommended, but one has to stay on the countryside as the city traffic can be unsuitable for those on two wheels.
