The backdrop of the famous movie franchise Lord of the Rings, New Zealand is renowned for its natural beauty. Whether you’re kayaking down a clear river or learning more about traditional Maori culture, each experience in the country will prove very memorable.

If you are travelling to the north of New Zealand, be sure to explore the islands of the Hauraki Gulf in Auckland. Learn about the Maori culture at the Twin Coast Discovery Highway while enjoying the relaxing atmosphere brought about by the beaches and forests in the area. After that, visit country’s cultural capital in Wellington, filled with museums and artistic cafes.

The south side of the country is home to a majority of New Zealand’s Great Walks, popular hiking trails that provide spectacular scenery. Alternatively, you could embark on overnight cruises on the Milford, which will allow you not only to appreciate the view, but also chance upon wildlife such as dolphins and fur seals. If you are a nature buff, eco-tours in the Otago Peninsula will take you to the nesting area of penguins and visit the only mainland colony of Albatross in the world.

If you are into scenery, visit the Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo, boasting a view of the Southern Alps. You can also ride the gondola 450m above Queenstown to Bob’s Peak to enjoy views of Lake Wakatipu and its majestic mountains. After which, take an exciting ride back to the ground via the luge.

Indulge in the local lifestyle by enjoying the Pacific Rim cuisine and other delicacies the country has to offer. Seafood is a large part of the cuisine and is prepared in different ways to delight your taste buds. Try out the local favourite of Whitebait and meet with locals at the Farmer’s Markets, where street stores selling fresh fruits, vegetables and meat are matched with friendly store owners. Also, cycle around the vineyards to observe how wine is made and at the same time, enjoy the picturesque scenery of New Zealand.

If you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings, hop on a tour in Queenstown and bring your camera. Specialised tours take you around the sets. These places are also some of the most scenic places in the world, so you’ll be left awed either way.
