Located in the suburb of Cloverdale, Perth Airport serves the city of Perth, the capital and the largest city in Western Australia. The airport is one of the busiest in Australia and it consists of four terminals: Terminal 1 is designated as the international terminal, while Terminals 2, 3 and 4 are domestic terminals. The terminals are connected by a free bus transfer that operates 24/7.

There are several ways you can get from the airport to the heart of Perth. If you are looking to get to central locations within the city, such as East Perth train station, Wellington Street or The Ambassador Hotel, the airport shuttle is a reliable option. Otherwise, you could take the public bus operated by Transperth from the domestic terminals. Taxis would be a much faster and comfortable option. You can get a taxi easily from the taxi ranks located outside the terminals.

Unless you intend to travel beyond the Perth metropolitan area, the public transport system, operated by Transperth, is a reliable and cost-efficient way to get around. Travelling to popular tourist attractions within Perth, Fremantle, Cottesloe, and Scarborough is generally quite easy by public transport, but for places beyond, a rented car would be a better option. Alternatively, you could choose to commute via public bus services that run around the suburbs between bus and train stations or the suburban railway network to outlying suburban areas. If you intend to take a taxi, don’t do so during peak hours, as you could be waiting for a while before you get one.

An area you must visit is Fremantle, located at the mouth of the Swan River and home to numerous sights, including the Fremantle Prison and the Fremantle Market. The latter is a public market renowned for its diverse selections of shops and wares that range from fresh local produce to handicrafts.

The Fremantle Prison was a maximum-security prison built by convict labourers in the 1850s, but today, the UNESCO World Heritage Site functions as a public museum with daily and nightly tours. One of the more interesting tours is the Torchlight Tour that allows you to explore the prison at night, with a few surprises (or scares) along the way¾ definitely not for the fainthearted. The site also makes for a great learning experience for those interested in the city’s history.

To enjoy the beauty of Perth, head to one of the largest inner city parks in the world - Kings Park and Botanic Garden situated on the western edge of Perth’s central business district. As the park is situated on a vantage point, it is extremely popular with both locals and tourists alike. It not only offers breath-taking panoramic views of the Swan River and Darling Range but also stunning views of the city. Besides the usual facilities, there are also several memorials nestled in the lush greenery of the park, including the State War Memorial and the Bali Memorial. The park is a great place for anyone who is looking to unwind and enjoy crisp, fresh air.
