ChinaChengde sits 250 km northeast of Beijing on the west bank of the Wulie River. The Yushan mountain range surrounds the city, making it a relatively quiet place. Ancient buildings juxtapose the growing vegetables in the nearby fields. Chengde was once the vast summer residence for the Qing emperors.
