If you don’t, it’s time to make that association stronger. After all, Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world, boasting a coastline that stretches a whopping 54,720 kilometres! Considering these facts, it’s no surprise that there’s a chock-full of beach destinations in Indonesia.

Wondering where exactly to go? Here, we’ll be introducing a handful of ideas for a beach holiday in Indonesia. Complement your days filled with the sun, sand and sea with some of Indonesia’s adventurous wonders comprising exciting activities, as well as its sensory wonders which refer to food, drinks, wellness and entertainment that will delight your senses.

1. Bali

A traveller’s favourite, Bali simply has to be on this list of beach destinations in Indonesia. Apart from the iconic Kuta Beach, Bali has a collection of picturesque beaches to fit every mood. Those who love to sip cocktails by beachside bars will be happy to lounge along Sanur Beach and Legian Beach, while surfers should catch some waves at Padang Padang Beach, Balangan Beach or Medewi Beach. If surfing’s not your cup of tea, perhaps the thrill seeker in you would be up for parasailing, fly fishing, water skiing or a banana boat ride? Bali is full of possibilities!

2. Lombok

Lombok is often overshadowed by its sister island, Bali. Despite that, it shines proudly with its fair share of adventurous activities and idyllic beaches. You’ll find a good selection of uncrowded beaches such as Pandanan Beach and Mawun Beach where you can sink your feet into white sands. If white sand beaches are too mainstream, how about a pink sand beach? That’s right, Lombok has a Pink Beach that is perpetually caressed by turquoise waves. Like Bali, some of Lombok’s beaches have awesome surf breaks but if you’re looking for an adventure on land, start training now for your hike up Mount Rinjani.

3. Mandalika

Well, technically Mandalika is in Lombok, along the south coast, but we feel that it’s deserving to be listed as a destination in itself. That’s because Mandalika is now Lombok’s capital of leisure and it’s fast becoming a hotspot among travellers in the know. Equipped with bars, nightclubs, waterparks, spas, hotels and resorts, this special zone will keep you occupied for days! Some of Lombok’s most magnificent beaches, such as Seger Beach and Tanjung Aan are also within Mandalika.
