Romance in KL: the best restaurants to impress your better half

We get it. Kuala Lumpur isn't Paris, or Milan, or even San Francisco. It's not the world's most romantic location. But that doesn't mean this international food capital doesn't have plenty of great romantic spots for a quiet, intimate meal. Here are four of Skyscanner's favorites.

1. Maison Francaise

All over the world, haute French cuisine is romantic and beautiful – and Maison Francaise is the best French restaurant in Malaysia. Step out of the bustling streets of KL into a quiet, colonial setting with white walls and European decor to feast on delicacies like foie gras, salmon, seared duck and bouillabaise beneath crystal chandeliers and atop white linen tablecloths. Being a French restaurant, it also has excellent wines to pair with your meal.

2. Tamarind Hill

Walk arm-in-arm up a candlelit stairway, following a bamboo path to the sounds of running water, then sit in a thatched-room bungalow in a secluded al fresco location with shade trees overhead. Enjoy fine wines at a white-linen-bedecked table. We dare you to not end up in a romantic mood. Shed some inhibitions with cocktails from their unique menu, and share some Thai-Burmese fusion entrees. What’s for dessert is up to you.

3. Lafite

This modern European fine dining destination has been a special occasion staple for KL families for years, so much so that it routinely offers special couples dining menus for events like Valentine’s Day and New Years. Expect elegant presentation, rich foods, a mind-boggling selection of wines, and a price tag to match. Not for every day dining, but a real winner to wow your partner when it’s time to truly celebrate. Lafite is located inside the posh Shangri-La Hotel, so making a night of it is easy.

4. Fuego

If you want to hold hands with your partner years from now and say “Honey, remember that time we ate insanely delicious tapas and drank egg yolk cocktails while looking down at KLCC and across at the Petronas Towers?” then Fuego is the only destination in town for you. It’s hip, hot and interesting in all the right ways. Go all in for a full-course session of tapas, entree, dessert and drinks, or stop in to enjoy the view and any combination of those elements for a truly memorable night. It’s no secret why Fuego is not a secret anywhere in KL.
