Budget airlines that fly from Phuket to Bangkok

Orient Thai Airlines, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air, and Thai Smile Air all offer nonstop flights to Don Mueang International Airport from Phuket Airport (as of June 2016).  Thai Vietjet Air also operates on this route, but touches down in Suvarnabhumi Airport instead.

Departure from Phuket Airport (HKT)

Phuket Airport is one of the busiest air transport hubs of Thailand and the only airport on the island. To get to Phuket Airport from town, simply grab a taxi from your hotel - the ride will take about half an hour and cost you a mere 400-600 THB (RM 46-69).  

Travellers are advised to check in at Phuket Airport 2 hours in advance for their flight.

Phuket Airport isn’t big in size, but is still able to support the needs of travellers leaving the island. You’ll be able to find tourist information counters, some duty-free shops and minimarts, currency exchange offices, pharmacies and luggage storage facilities in the passenger terminal. 2 hours of free wi-fi is also offered to all travellers.

Arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) 

If you’re flying on a full-service air carrier you are most likely to touch down in Suvarnabhumi Airport, the larger of Bangkok’s 2 air transport hubs. To get from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city, travellers can board the Airport Rail Link train from Suvarnabhumi Station and alight at Phaya Thai Station in downtown Bangkok. This journey should take about half an hour and set you back about 15-45 THB (RM 2-5).  

Things to do in Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) 

Suvarnabhumi Airport is well-stocked with international and local restaurants, along with an array of snack bars, fast food chains and cafes. Duty-free shops are also available, as is free wi-fi. 

Arrival at Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) 

The smaller of the two airports, Don Mueang is the arrival point of most budget airlines. To get from Don Mueang Airport to Bangkok,  travellers will have to take a public bus or taxi (which will cost around 350 THB (RM 40)) as no rail services are currently available (as of June 2016).

In Don Mueang Airport you’ll find an array of foreign and local dining outlets as well as some fast food chains if you’re feeling hungry. Besides that the ubiquitous duty-free boutiques, a hair salon, currency exchange office, medical centre and airport hotel can also be found.
