Departure from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) 

KLIA is Malaysia’s largest air transport hub, and handles much of the country’s outbound international and domestic flights. To get from to KLIA from Kuala Lumpur rapidly, travellers can board the direct airport train service, KLIA Ekspres, from KL Sentral at the heart of the city. KLIA Ekspres trains depart every 15-20 minutes, and head towards both KLIA and KLIA 2.

The train ride takes about half an hour, at a fare of about RM 55. Travellers are advised to check in at KLIA 2 hours in advance for international flights and 1.5 hours in advance for domestic flights. 

Things to do in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) 

You’ll be able to find plenty to entertain yourself with before your flight at the spacious and well-equipped KLIA. Those wanting to fill up before flying can do so at the numerous dining outlets available within the 2 airport terminals - food options range from fast food to gourmet cuisine of both local and international origins. Well-stocked duty-free shopping areas are also available, as is free wi-fi. 

Arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI

Kota Kinabalu Airport is the main gateway through which travellers pass to enter Kota Kinabalu (mostly for a shot at climbing the great Mount Kinabalu, tallest mountain in Malaysia). Though the airport used to consist of 2 passenger terminals, Terminal 2 has been out of operation since late 2015 and all flights now arrive and depart from Terminal 1 (as of June 2016).

To get to Kota Kinabalu from Terminal 1, travellers can either board the Airport Bus (at about RM 5) for a 25-40 minute direct ride into town or grab a taxi (the fare should be around RM 30). As the airport is less than 10 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu, the taxi ride should not take much longer than 20 minutes.

Though not as large as KLIA, Kota Kinabalu Airport is still well-equipped to keep arriving travellers comfortable.
