Departure from Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) 

Narita International Airport is one of the main air transport hubs of Japan, and handles most of the country’s international arrivals and departures. It is located about 60 kilometres outside of Tokyo, but is well-connected to the city via the JR Narita Express train.

Travellers can board the train from Tokyo Station (the main rail terminal in Tokyo) and reach Narita in only an hour, at a fare of around JPY 3000 (RM 115). Travellers are advised to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before their international flight and 1.5 hours before a domestic flight.

Narita Airport is well-stocked with facilities and services to cater to every need a traveller could have. From an abundance of eating outlets (of both international and local origins) to dayrooms and shower facilities, a kids park, coin-operated lockers and even a pet hotel, waiting for your flight at Narita is no hardship.  

Departure from Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) 

Haneda Airport is located much closer to Tokyo city than Narita Airport, making it a popular alternative for those taking domestic or regional flights. From Tokyo, travellers can reach Haneda rapidly by taking the Tokyo Monorail or the Keikyu Railway. The ride should take about 30-40 minutes, and cost about JPY 500 (RM 19). Travellers are advised to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before their international flight and 1.5 hours before a domestic flight.

Arrival at Osaka Itami Airport (ITM)

Itami Airport - once known as Osaka International Airport - is one of 2 air transport hubs serving Osaka (the other being Kansai International Airport) and handles the region’s domestic air connections. To get from Itami to Osaka, take the Osaka Monorail from the Osaka Airport Station to Hotarugaike Station (a 2 minutes ride that costs about JPY 200 (RM 7.40), and then transfer onto the Hankyu Takarazuka Line to reach Umeda Station in 15-20 minutes, at a fare of about JPY 220 (RM 8).

Itami airport’s passenger terminal is well-equipped with shops selling food, drinks, souvenirs and more. Amenities like clinics, a post office, and massage chairs are also available.  

Arrival at Kansai International Airport (KIX) 

Kansai International Airport is, interestingly, located on a man-made island situated in Osaka Bay and is considered the longest airport terminal in the world (as of April 2016). From Kansai Airport, travellers can reach Osaka in about 30-50 minutes by taking either the JR Haruka limited express train or the JR airport rapid train to Tennoji station, at a fare of about JPY 1060-2200 (RM 40-81).
