While there are no plans for Malaysia to be included in the US Visa Waiver Programme in the near future, there are still plenty of countries in the Americas that Malaysians can enter sans visa. For your inspiration, we have put together a list of six interesting visa-free countries to consider for your next long vacation.
1. Venezuela
Along the northeastern coast of Venezuela lies the Mochima National Park which features azure blue waters. In the right season, this is the place for spotting marine animals like dolphin and whales! While there, don’t forget to pop into a beachside thatched restaurant to try the fried fish that’s usually served with mashed plantain (a type of banana). No trip to Venezuela is complete without checking out the world’s tallest uninterrupted waterfall with a breathtaking height of 979 metres: Angel Falls.
With up to 90 days of visa-free entry into Venezuela, you can have plenty of time to explore this beautiful country.
2. Brazil
The most familiar Brazilian image is arguably that of the Christ the Redeemer statue. Standing at 38 metres in height, including 8 metres from the pedestal, the statue is a majestic sight to behold. If you take a hike, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the city from the top of Corcovado Mountain. There are also escalators available for those who are looking for an easy way up! For nature-lovers, Brazil is also home to the famous Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina. Don’t forget to feast on a range of barbecued meats and moqueca, a fish stew, while you are there.
Malaysian passport holders get to spend up to 90 visa-free days in Brazil.
3. Peru
Machu Picchu, located within the Cuzco Region of Peru, is one of the “new Seven Wonders of the World”. Designed and built in classical Inca Style, the use of dry-stone walls is prominent in this impressive citadel. Take a trek up the Inca Trail and be blown away by the majestic sight as you approach the vantage point. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, trek the Cordillera Blanca in Huaraz for snow-capped mountains. If you would like something a little more laidback, Mancora provides great beaches for surfing or chilling out with a drink in hand.
Holders of the Malaysian passport get up to 90 days in Peru without a visa, so take your time to enjoy what the country has to offer.
4. Argentina
Being the capital city, Buenos Aires is one of the most exciting places to be in Argentina. The city is home to good food, wine, art as well as soulful people devoted to music and dance. Dance lovers should definitely check out the Barrancas de Belgrano park in the evening and tango along with equally passionate people. Be sure not to miss the Confitería Ideal, one of the most beautiful historical tango halls in Buenos Aires. If you want to venture away from the capital, rent a car and check out Salta for its beautiful museums, food and well-preserved colonial architectures.

5. Chile
With towering glacial mountains and mirror-like waters, Torres del Paine National Park is one of Chile’s most beautiful and well-known sites – for good reason.
