Dublin Airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is the main terminal with the majority of airlines such as Air France, British Airways, Flybe and Ryanair operating from here.

Flights operating from Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport are typically long haul flights with airlines such as Aer Lingus, American Airlines, Etihad Airways and United Airlines. Terminal 2 has the US pre-immigration clearance centre (USCBP) so passengers travelling to the US from Dublin can complete immigration checks before their flight and upon arrival be treated as a domestic passenger and therefore avoid lengthy passport control queues.

When to check in at Dublin Airport?

The Terminal 1 check in hall is located on the first floor, Terminal 2 check in takes place on the ground floor.

It is recommended that you arrive at the airport to check-in at least 90 minutes before your flight when travelling on domestic or European flights and three hours for long haul flights.

Online and mobile check-in facilities are on offer with most airlines operating from Dublin Airport and bag drop desks are located in the check in halls for passengers travelling with hold luggage. Online check in and bag drop desk closing times vary between airlines, confirm this with your airline before travelling.

‘Evening before’ check in is available for certain early morning flights with Aer Lingus.

Drop off at Dublin Airport

Both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 have designated drop off zones outside the entrance to the terminals. This area is strictly for drop offs only and cars must not be left unattended. If you want to leave your car and head into the airport with your passengers then use the short stay car parks.

Where should I park at the airport?

Parking is plentiful at Dublin Airport with both long and short stay car parks offering drive up car parking rates or discounts when pre-booking.
For short stays of up to a few days there are three short stay car parks within walking distance of the airport, booking in advance for discounted rates is recommended here.
For longer stays there are several long stay car parks which are a short shuttle bus ride away from the terminals. The Express Red Car Park is the closest of the long term car parks, a 5 minute shuttle bus ride away from both terminals. GPS coordinates for this car park are 53.42335, -6.22923. The Express Green Car Park is a seasonal car park open from May to August and is located next to the Express Red Car Park. The cheapest long stay car park at Dublin Airport is the Holiday Blue Car Park, this is a 10 minute shuttle from the terminals. The GPS coordinates for sat-nav are 53.41937, -6.27648.

Pick up at Dublin Airport

Picking up passengers may take longer than you expect, especially if there are queues through passport control. It's therefore recommended that when picking up passengers you use the multi-storey car parks. There are three car parks, Terminal 1 Short Stay Car Park C, Terminal 2 Short Term Car Park and Short Term Car Park A all of which are less than 5 minutes walk from the terminals. Parking here is ‎€3 for the first hour and ‎€4,50 for every additional hour.

Travelling to/from Dublin Airport

Dublin Airport is located 13km to the north of Dublin city centre, with bus and road links to Dublin.

Dublin Airport by car

Dublin Airport lies alongside the M1 motorway, take the M50 from Dublin, onto the M1 and exit at Junction 2. If you're parking at the Holiday Blue Express Car Park exit the M50 at Junction 4.

Car hire from Dublin Airport is available from car hire companies such as Europcar, Avis and Thrifty.

Dublin Airport by bus/coach

Buses and coaches are the only public transport option from Dublin Airport into Dublin with no train station near the airport, as a result there are extensive bus services available. The main bus service is the Dublin Bus Airlink Express Route 747 which has stops at the Dublin bus station, and Dublin Connolly and Heuston train stations. Departures are every 15 minutes during the day with a total journey time of 30 minutes, this is typically longer during peak periods. Tickets can be purchased from the bus information stand in Terminal 1, the Spar shop in Terminal 2, ticket machines at the bus stop and online.

For those travelling beyond Dublin Bus Eireann and Citylink offer bus services to towns and cities throughout Ireland. These include Cork, Gallway, Wexford, Donegal and Sligo. Alternatively you can take the Airlink Express 747 to Dublin Heuston train station where there are train connections to destinations such as Waterford, Cork and Limerick.
