Kuantan city, located along the eastern coastal region of Malaysia, is the capital of the Malaysian state Pahang. Though often overlooked by tourists or treated as a convenient rest stop on their journey through the country, Kuantan has a unique charm of its own and is also surrounded by a host of undiscovered natural and man-made attractions. Some examples include one of the world’s largest underground tin mines, plenty of beautiful clean beaches, one of Malaysia’s biggest theme park resort districts along with numerous waterfalls and natural parks.

To make the most of your Kuantan vacation, though, staying in the right place is key. From the never-ending excitement of Kuantan city’s downtown district, the sunny charms of nearby Cherating Beach Town to the family-friendly Bukit Gambang Resort City, find your best accommodation fit in Kuantan with Skyscanner.

Where to stay

For the city-lovers

If you’ll like to be in the thick of things at all times, staying in the heart of Kuantan is perfect for you. Characterised by sprawling new multi-function developments like Putra Square (with its large retail spaces and sparkling offices) along with old goodies like Mahkota Square, there’s plenty to do, see, eat and buy in Kuantan’s downtown district.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a hotel, as good ones (ranging from the luxurious to the basic) are scattered all around the district, making Kuantan city the perfect place for business travellers. Need to visit clients or friends somewhere further out? With the Kuantan Sentral Bus Terminal just a stone’s throw away, you’ll also be able to make that commute in the blink of an eye.

For the beach-lovers

If you’re after some relaxation and a little sun, sand and sea, then the nearby beach town of Cherating is the answer to your prayers. A tiny little fishing village that subsequently became a resort district due to the boom in tourism in the area, Cherating boasts a slow, sultry pace of life that you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in the world now.

Relax and rejuvenate in one of the numerous cheap chalets, hostels and guesthouses in the village, and let the soporific sound of the waves plus the laid-back attitudes of the local people sooth your worries away. If you would like to unwind in luxury, you’ll also be able to find Asia’s very first Club Med in Cherating (as of February 2016).

For families

Traveling with little ones in tow? You’ve got to stay in Bukit Gambang Resort District, then. A man-made paradise boasting over 700 acres of pure family entertainment, BGRC is ready to welcome you and your munchkins with open arms. Keep the little ones entertained to no end at the Bukit Gambang Water Theme Park in the day and the Safari Park at night whilst you kick back at the luxurious resort, wine glass and book in hand. What better way is there to holiday as a family?
