With beautiful tropical weather, pristine beaches, and natural lush surroundings, Koh Samui hits all the marks necessary for a pleasant and relaxing holiday. Start your time there with a visit to one of the region’s most popular attractions, the Ang Thong National Marine Park. There, you will be able to find limestone massifs, beautiful coastlines, and verdant tropical rainforests. The marine park is famous for its beaches, like Koh Mae, and small, quaint coves. Another top attraction there is Thale Nai, an emerald saltwater lake known for its serenity and panoramic views. The marine park also hosts a wide variety of wildlife, which include the Asian long-tailed monkey, reef egret, hair-nosed otter, white-bellied sea eagle, ashy drongo, sea turtle, and even large Asian pythons. Activities popular with tourists at the park include kayaking, snorkelling, swimming and scuba diving.

One of the best family-friendly attractions you can find in the area, the Koh Samui Tiger Zoo and Aquarium is home to an impressive collection of animals. You will be able to catch live shows with leopards, tigers, and sea lions, in addition to a bird show featuring exotic and native birds like the eagle, parrot, hawk, and hornbill. At the Tiger Zoo zone, you will have the opportunity to get up close and interact with the tiger and leopard cubs. You can also pay to have a photograph taken with the animals in their habitats, and all proceeds from the photo go to the Tiger’s Foundation.

The Fisherman’s Village in Bophut is a quaint and beautiful place. It is home to one of Koh Samui’s finest beaches, on top of various establishments and restaurants. The village is known for its Chinese-Thai culture, and this is evident from the number of historic wooden homes, some of which were built in the 19th and 20th centuries by Chinese immigrants. Feel free to explore the beautiful, old mansions and establishments to gain insights into the history and culture of the area. The village also has a charming “walking street” that allows visitors to enjoy a traffic-free stroll through the area, where you can find numerous eateries, coffee shops and entertainment zones.

Getting Around Koh Samui

There are a number of transport options you can use to get around in Koh Samui. These include the songthaew, car, bicycle, taxi, motorbike or even motorbike taxi. The songthaew acts as the local bus service, and drivers tend to take in as many passengers as possible, so be prepared to squeeze with others. Songthaews follow set routes, but there are no official stops.

Getting To Koh Samui

There are regular flights from Kuala Lumpur to Koh Samui operated by airlines such as Malaysia Airlines and Bangkok Airways. It is possible to reach Koh Samui within two hours. From Samui Airport, you can get to Koh Samui by private car transfer, private minivan transfer, or rental car.
