Cheap flights from Bouvet Island

Bouvet Island is a known uninhabited sub-Antarctic volcanic island that is located at the South Atlantic Ocean, and is a dependency of Norway. The island lies at the southern end of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and is also considered as the most remote island in the world. Bouvet Island is approximately 2,200km south-southwest of the coast of South Africa and around 1,700km north of the Princess Astrid Coast of Queen Maud Land, Antarctica.

Bouvet Island has an area of 49km2 and 93% of it is covered by a glacier. Its centre is an ice-filled crater of an inactive volcano. There are some skerries and another smaller island named Larsøya that lies along the coast. Nyrøysa, which is created by a rock slide in the late 1950s, is the only place where it is safe and easy to land and is also the location of its weather station.

Where to go

There are no other places to go to in the island other than Nyrøysa, which is considered as the place to have any form of transport activity as it is also considered the safest place to land. Though there is a spot that is safe to go to, Bouvet Island is not developed for tourism. The island is considered as a nature reserve and the government has denied entry of any form into the island. There are exemptions where arranged expeditions by professionals are allowed, but these must be organised by the government and in groups. A group is usually formed of professionals that include biologists, researchers, geologists, helicopter pilots, or physicians.

Short Haul

There are no short haul flights coming from Bouvet Island because there is no airport coming from the area. The only way for it to be possible to fly out is using a helicopter. These however are teamed along a ship that is specifically used for special expeditions for research.

Long Haul

There are no available long haul flights coming from Bouvet Island. The reason for this is that there is no available airport in the area. The only way of getting out of the island is to fly out using a helicopter, but these are teamed along a ship that is specifically used for special expeditions for research.

How to get out

The only way to get out of Bouvet Island is through helicopters, boats, and ships. These however are specialised ones as they are used for expeditions and research by professionals. If you are a professional who is a geologist, researcher, physician, biologist, or helicopter pilot, it will be possible to arrange an expedition with the government going to and going out of the island. However, the interior of the island itself is very inaccessible. The terrain is a difficult territory to handle and the government only allows a limited number of people to enter the nature reserve.
