Germany, an economic powerhouse of the European Union, is an amazing country blessed with natural sights and cultural attractions. The locals are proud of their country and are more than willing to tell you more about the best of Germany.

Start in the capital, Berlin, which sums up everything modern Germany offers: art, fashion, music, design, architecture, museums and nightlife. From the capital, travel to the world-famous Neuschwanstein castle located in the Alps. It is so beautiful that Walt Disney used it as an inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty movie. Take a guided tour around the castle’s interior and be amazed by its beauty. Continue on the theme of castles by travelling down the Romantic Road, featuring medieval towns, high walls and towers, houses, castles and restaurants serving traditional German cuisine.

Nature lovers can head to the Black Forest, where hills, quaint villages and lush forests lie. Drive, bike or walk through the many routes that lead you away from the city and into a natural wonder. Take the Wine route to different wineries and the German Clock Road for insight into the famous cuckoo clock there. After a long day, spare no expense in enjoying a slice of Black Forest Cake.

Two festivals that are heavily celebrated in Germany are Oktoberfest and Christmas. If you’re in Munich during Oktoberfest, visit the most famous beer hall in the city, the Hofbrauhaus. There, wash down Bavarian delicacies and giant pretzels with beer that is only served in one litre glasses. Be merry with the locals and feast on yummy sausages. During Christmas, Christmas Markets spring up all over Dresden, Munich and Nuremberg. These fairs do not just sell Christmas goodies, but also offer carnival rides. Experience the magic of Christmas as you stroll along the wooden huts lined with fairy lights.

Getting around Germany is easy either via internal flight or by the more affordable options of bus and rail. Germany’s high speed railway network, the InterCity Express is one of the fastest in Europe, taking you to places efficiently. InterCity Night, the night train is available as well. As a tourist, be sure to get the German Rail Tourist Passes for better rates.
