Cheap flights from Central African Republic

Central African Republic (CAR), also known as Centrafrique, is a landlocked country in Central Africa, bordered by Cameroon to the west, Chad to the north, Sudan and South Sudan to the east, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Republic of the Congo to the south. Its capital and largest city is Bangui. Its land area is approximately 620,000 square kilometres (240,000 square miles) with an estimated population of around 4.7 million as of 2014. The official languages in the country are Sango and French. It experiences a generally tropical climate, with its northern regions subject to desertification and the remainder of CAR is flood-prone (from nearby rivers).

Where to go

Central African Republic’s capital, Bangui, is, as most capitals, the administrative, trade, and commercial centre. Its old town has retained its colonial town planning, with wide boulevards leading towards central market square. The city centre features a large triumphal arch dedicated to Bokassa, the Presidential Palace, and also the central market. A community of French expats can also be found here, which is home to one of the best ice cream parlours in the continent. Some of the attractions in the city include Boganda Museum and the Bangui Zoo. There’s also Notre-Dame Cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bangui. Visit Boganda Museum, which displays traditional musical instruments, weapons, rural architectural features, ancient hunting tools, pottery, and many religious antiques, as well as a collection of bark cloth, which was the material used to cover Bokassa's bed. Beautiful wood carvings can be bought in the city. However, although rare African Grey parrots are being sold (illegally, that is) in town, do not be tempted to buy as you will be arrested if you do. Feast on gastronomic delights, courtesy of Centrafrican cuisine. Bangui’s staple diet consists of cassava, rice, squash, pumpkins, and plantains served with a sauce and grilled meat. You can also taste other African cuisines, as well as foreign ones.

Just about five to six hours by plane from Bangui is the city of Casablanca in Morocco. It is the cosmopolitan, industrial, and economic hub of the country. Some of the notable attractions worth visiting in the city include the King Hassan II Mosque, the largest in Morocco and the third largest in the world. It has the world’s tallest minaret. See its beautiful interior, with a roof that opens to the sky, and striking tile work. There’s also the Old Medina, a small traditional walled town located in the northern part of the city; and the Corniche, a neighbourhood on the ocean, which has plenty of western fast food chains and a movie theatre. Best thing to do though, is to stroll along the streets or relax at one of its cafes that provide great ocean views.

About seven hours from Bangui is the cosmopolitan capital of France: Paris, also known as the “City of Light” and the fashion capital. Do not miss out on the opportunity to see what this lovely city has to offer by purchasing a Paris Museum Pass, which allows entry into over 70 museums and monuments around Paris (and the Palace of Versailles), available in two-, four-, and six-day denominations (consecutive days). Check out some of the city’s stunning landmarks such as the grand Arc de Triomphe, which provides a central view of Paris; Catacombs, which used to store the exhumed bones of about six million people; Château de Versailles, the most exquisite chateau in France; and of course, the renowned and iconic Eiffel Tower.
