Cheap flights from St Maarten

A constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sint Maarten consists of the southern 40% of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, while the northern 60% constitutes the French overseas collectivity of Saint-Martin. Sint Maarten was previously called the Island Territory of Sint Maarten until October 10, 2010. The country was also one of the five island territories that form the Netherlands Antilles. Sint Maarten’s capital is Philipsburg, and the largest city is Lower Prince’s Quarter.

Where to go

A major attraction in Sint Maarten is its Princess Juliana International Airport, which is known for its runway that is very close to Maho Beach. Tourists here can watch the low final approach landings of the aircraft within at least 20 feet of the beach. Maho Beach itself is also popular, particularly among windsurfers and skimboarders due to the occasional large waves of the ocean. The beach features white sand. Nearby Maho Beach is the Caravanserai Resort, the Sunset Beach Bar, and restaurants and night clubs.

The whole island of Saint Martin, the French side included, has a total of 37 beaches, most of which has hotels in them. A popular attraction on the island is its beach bars and cafes, offering European dishes uniquely infused with Caribbean inspiration. Beaches on the island are great for swimming and sun bathing, as well as many water recreation activities. The west half of the beach at Philipsburg, in particular, has better water. Orient Bay on Saint-Martin, meanwhile, has an underwater marine reserve which is a good spot for snorkelling and other water sports. Sint Maarten / Saint-Martin is also known for clothing-optional beaches and resorts. Cupecoy Beach in Sint Maarten is not officially clothing-optional but topless sun bathing is common on the far western edge of the beach. No other beach in Sint Maarten allows this. Another famous beach is Mullet Bay in Sint Maarten, known to have the nicest beach on the island. Sint Maarten is also home to casinos, located in Cupecoy, Maho, Cole Bay, and Philipsburg. Other points of interest in Sint Maarten also include Kid Connect, an activity centre for kids; Loterie Farm, a 150-acre preserve that offers hikes and ecotours, as well as zip-lining opportunities; and Harley Motorcycles Tour, where tourists ride a hog and travel on roads that overlook the white sand beaches and turquoise sea.
