An autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenland can be found between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, to the east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. The country is physiologically part of North America, although it has been ethnically, politically, and culturally associated with Europe, particularly with Norway and Denmark, as well as Iceland. Greenland is knowns as the world’s largest island, as well as the world’s least densely populated country. Its capital and largest city is Nuuk.

When within Greenland, explore what it has to offer, starting with Northeast Greenland National Park. It is the largest and most northerly national park in the world. Founded in the early 1970s, the park protects and area of around 972,001 square kilometres or 375,000 square miles. There is no permanent human population within the park; however, stops or stations within the camp include Daneborg, Danmarkshavn, Station Nord, Mestersvig, Zackenberg, and Summit Camp. The park’s wildlife boasts polar bears, musk oxen, Arctic fox, Arctic hare, narwhal, and Beluga whale, among others.

Short haul international destinations from Greenland include Reykjavik, Iceland; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Hamburg Germany. Within Copenhagen are a great number of destinations and attractions that shows what Denmark’s capital city is known for. Visit Tivoli Gardens, Rosenborg Castle, The Little Mermaid, Christiansborg Palace, National Museum of Denmark, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Amalienborg, and National Gallery of Denmark, in addition to many more. The National Gallery of Denmark, also referred to as Statens Museum for Kunst or SMK, is home to some pieces that have been collected, registered, maintained, researched, and handled over the years. The national gallery houses Danish and foreign art from the 14th century to the present, with works divided into collections that include European Art, Danish and Nordic Art, French Art, The Royal Collection of Graphic Art, and more. In total, National Gallery of Denmark is home of approximately 9,000 paintings and sculptures, with 240,000 works of art on paper, 2,600 plaster casts of figures, in addition to various works that came from the art chambers of previous Danish kings.

Greenland’s airports, at present, do not operate flights to long haul destinations. When flying out, go via Copenhagen, Denmark via Copenhagen Airport and get to long haul stops like Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Orlando, Florida, United States; and Doha, Qatar, in addition to many more. These destinations can be reached with flights that last approximately six to ten hours from point of origin. As a unique destination, Dubai is known for attractions like the Burj Al Arab, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Creek, Wild Wadi Water Park, Dubai Museum, the Dubai Mall, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, and Ski Dubai, to name a few. Visit Dubai Museum and take a glimpse of the history that envelops the land. As the main museum of Dubai, it can be found within the Al Fahidi Fort, and was opened in the early 1970s. Currently, the museum has served over one million visitors as of 2013 and offers general local antiquities, artefacts, among others, from within the country and from African and Asian nations that have traded with Dubai over the years. Along with the collections, the museum also features a good number of dioramas that show the life within Dubai and the emirate in the previous years.

The major airport that serves Greeland is Kangerlussuaq Airport, which serves as the hub for domestic flights and where intercontinental flights are directed mainly to Copenhagen in Denmark. Airlines that operate flights at of Kangerlussuaq Airport include Air Greenland, Greenland Express, and Air Iceland. Along with Kangerlussuag Airport is Narsarsuaq Airport – these are the only two civilian airports in the country that are large enough to handle large airliners. Narsarsuaq Airport is served by Air Greenland, Air Greenland operated by Jet Time, Air Iceland, and Greenland Express.
