Where to go

Historic Centre of Lima - The Historic Centre of Lima is one of the top and most important tourist destinations in Peru. The centre is home to many monuments, including the Archbishop Palace, Museum of Italian Art, the House of Aliaga, Basilica Cathedral, Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and Convent of Santo Domingo, Government Palace, the Court of Santo Oficio, and the Sanctuary and Monastery of Las Nazarenas. Arguably the most notable features of the Historic Centre of Lima are the Balconies of Lima. These are a famous cultural heritage built during the Spanish colonial regime and the republic era, most of which were constructed in the late 17th and 18th centuries.

Museum of the Nation - Museum of the Nation, or Museo de la Nación, is the larger of the two major museums of Peruvian history in Lima, the other being the Peruvian National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology, and History. The Museum of the Nation is home to thousands of artefacts spanning the entire history of human occupation in Peru. It contains collections of Moche, Nazca, and Wari ceramics, as well as reproductions of numerous famous ancient Andean artefacts.

Ampay National Sanctuary - The Ampay National Sanctuary is a 36.35 square kilometre wildlife sanctuary situated on the base of Mount Ampay. It was established on July 23, 1987 to protect the Intimpa estate forest and endangered plant species and the basin of the Pachachaca River. The sanctuary also contains two lagoons and several wild fauna.

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu - The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is also known as Camino Inca or Camino Inka. It consists of the three overlapping trails called Mollepata, Classic, and One Day. The longest of the three is Mollepata, also with the highest mountain pass. It usually takes four to five days to complete trekking the Classic Inca Trail. Because of the concern regarding overuse of the trails leading to erosion, the Peruvian Government has placed a maximum limit of 500 people on the trail each day, which means only about 200 trekkers, with the rest being guides and porters.

The main airport serving Peru offers direct flights to several international destinations. An example of a short haul destination is Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. The city is often referred to as the city of contrasts, due to the fact that its attractions vary sharply from old and new and peaceful and frantic. It notably boasts of cultural institutes like the Cultural Heritage Museum, Emerald Museum, Banco de la Republica Art Collection (Museo Botero), Gold Museum, Museum of Colonial Art, and National Police Historical Museum.

Long haul destinations from Peru include Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. Los Angeles is a great place to visit because of its many family-friendly attractions such as Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the famous Hollywood Sign, Los Angeles Zoo, Dolby Theatre, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Griffith Observatory and Park.
