Cheap flights from Portugal

Located at the south-western tip of Europe and Spain, Portugal is a somewhat isolated country with rich and unique culture, modernised lively cities, and majestic countryside. Before the introduction of democracy in 1974 and the country’s incorporation into the European Union in 1986, Portugal is considered one of the poorest countries in Western Europe. Since then, the country gained remarkable prosperity and now prides itself with the, though unofficial, label of being one of the best worthy destinations in the continent. Portugal is blessed with widely diversified landscapes thanks to its location along the western shore of the Iberian Peninsula. Explore the fresh green mountains, trek through the Rocky Mountains, then traverse the near-desert landscape before basking in the glamorous beaches in the country. Portugal will prove to be a one-stop European destination. It is recorded as one of the warmest of all the European countries with its Mediterranean clime. Spring and summer seasons are sunny with July and August having the highest temperatures while autumn and winter seasons are practically rainy and windy.

Where to go

It’s easy to be romantic when in Portugal. This is all thanks to the many beautiful monuments that offer remarkable views that glitter the country. Visit Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal and get a taste of the country’s modernised way of living. But this is not to say that there are no traditional and cultural places in the capital. Visit romantic churches with some of them counting to over 900 years in existence and remained unchanged in terms of structure. The old monasteries like Alcobaca or the palaces like Mafra, which remains one of the biggest palaces in Europe, will definitely make your visit worthwhile. There are some other cities in Portugal that might pique your interest with their unique charm and tailored offering. Don’t miss to visit one of the most beautiful holiday beaches in the country. Go to Algarve and bathe in its majestic beaches framed with stunning coastlines. Beaches along the west coast near Lisbon and Peniche are perfect for extreme water adventures like surfing.

Aboard Swiss International Air Lines which has a codeshare agreement with TAP Portugal, you will find yourself in the land of the Swiss people some two and a half hours away. A landlocked country in Central Europe, Switzerland is famous for its mountains, Alps in the south and Jura in the northwest. Just like most countries in the continent, Switzerland is a clear depiction of rich history and culture that still overcast the locals’ modern way of living. If you’re straining your eyes for Medieval castles, then Bellinzona is the place for you. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and packs a punch of picturesque tourist destinations. Bern, the de facto capital city of Switzerland, is the place where you can enjoy crystal clear, green blue water of the Aare river; a truly magnificent spot to spend your holidays at.

TAP Portugal, the Portugal’s national carrier also has a codeshare agreement with Air Canada which enables tourists to jump off from Portugal to Canada at a little over eight hours. By size, Canada is the largest country in North America and ranks second in the world in the same category following Russia. Being a huge country, Canada is home to beautiful and modern cities that each has its fair share of tourist attractions to brag about. Visit Ottawa, the national capital of Canada that houses many national museums along with the ByWard Market and hosts the best Canada Day celebrations. Calgary is another point of interest as home to Calgary Zoo and Canada Olympic Park. Montreal will excite you as much as the clean and efficient modernism of Vancouver. It is the heart of the country’s francophone culture and still remains one of the most unique cities in North America. Lastly, don’t ever think about skipping a tour to the Niagara Falls when you’re in Canada. Located in Ontario, it is the self-proclaimed “Honeymoon Capital of the World”.
