Avianca Airlines Flights

Avianca, which means Aerovías del Continente Americano S.A. in Spanish, is an airline based in Colombia. It is the flag carrier and national airline of the country. The airline has its headquarters in Bogota and has three primary hubs namely – El Dorado International Airport, San Salvador Airport and the Jorge Chávez International Airport. It also has secondary hubs at the Juan Santamaría International Airport and Mariscal Sucre International Airport. Avianca’s focus cities are Rionegro, Santiago de Cali, Guatemala City in Guatemala, La Lima in Honduras and Miami City in the United States.

Avianca also has the distinction of being the second oldest airline in the world following KLM and the oldest airline in the Western Hemisphere. The airline was founded in late 1919 and has been operating flights for over 90 years. Since its founding, the airline has expanded to a fleet size of more than 170 aircraft servicing over 110 destinations. It also has subsidiaries including Avianca Costa Rica, Avianca Ecuador, Avianca Peru and Sansa Airlines.

Avianca operates flights to 27 countries across Europe, South America and North America. It is a member of the global airline alliance – Star Alliance – along with Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, EgyptAir, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and United Airlines. The airline also has codeshare agreements with several airlines including Aeroméxico, Etihad Airways and Iberia. Avianca currently does not operate flights from Malaysia.

Ways to Check-in

Avianca Airlines offers passengers several ways to check-in for flights. The airline recommends that passengers take advantage of the convenience offered by their Web Check-In and Mobile Check-In services. The Web Check-In service is available 24 hours before the flight’s scheduled departure. However, it is still recommended to arrive at the airport early to allow time for the security, customs and immigration processes.

Mobile Check-In is currently not available for domestic flights in Brazil or flight with codeshares. The check-in option on the Avianca application will be available once you are allowed to check-in.

Passengers can still opt to check-in at the airport either through the standard airport check-in counters or use the self-check-in kiosks. Checking in through the self-service kiosk is available 24 hours before the flight departure.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Avianca offers complimentary baggage allowance. However, the maximum weight and conditions vary depending on the travel route. For flights within Colombia, Ecuador, Peru as well as Europe and North America, Economy Class passengers can check in up to 2 pieces of luggage with a combined weight of 23 kilogrammes (50 pounds). Business Class passengers have up to 32 kilogrammes (70 pounds). Meanwhile, for other destinations in Latin America, both Economy and Business Class passengers are allowed to check-in up two pieces of luggage not exceeding 32 kilogrammes (70 pounds). Each piece of luggage should also not exceed the total dimension size of 158 centimetres (62 inches).

Seating

Avianca Airlines offers two types of travel classes – Economy and Business Class. However, availability of these cabins will vary depending on the travel route and aircraft assigned to the flight. Economy Class passengers will enjoy the relative comfort of the cabin with a seat width of 17 to 19 inches and a seat pitch of 30 to 36 inches. Meanwhile, Business Class passengers will have added comfort with seats 18 to 21 inches and a seat pitch of 38 to 72 inches. Some business class seats in selected aircraft can fully recline into a flat bed while most seats will come equipped with power outlets for charging of personal devices.

In-flight Services

Avianca provides complimentary meals onboard offering a selection of light snacks, hot meals as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to complement the fine cuisine prepared by top chefs.

Avianca also offers in-flight entertainment on flights. Most flights will have audio video on-demand, but some domestic flight may only have overhead TV where popular shows are shown throughout the flight.
