Thai Airways, founded in 1960, is the official airline flag carrier for Thailand. The airline began as a joint venture between Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and the country’s then domestic carrier, Thai Airways Company with the purpose of becoming the latter’s international wing. In 1977, it became wholly owned by the Thai government and years later in 1988, was merged with Thai Airways Company to form the current Thai Airways International.  


Thai Airways is headquartered in Bangkok with its primary hub at the Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi International Airport and focus cities at Chiang Mai, Phuket and Seoul-Incheon. It currently has a fleet size of 95 aircraft operating flights to over 80 destinations including flights operated by its subsidiary, Thai Smile. Thai Airways is a founding member of Star Alliance along with Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines and United Airlines

Thai Airways offers its passengers various ways to check-in for flights at their convenience and comfort. Airport check-in counters are open 3 hours before scheduled departure time and close 40 minutes before departure. Self-service Kiosk Check-In is also available at select airports – Bangkok, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, London Heathrow and Tokyo Narita. To save time at the airport, it is recommended that you use Thai Airways’ internet check-in or mobile check-in services. For online check-in, visit the airline’s official website. Make sure to have your passenger identification and booking information details handy. Internet check-in is available from 24 hours to an hour before the flight scheduled departure time. For mobile check-in, you can visit the airline's website on your mobile phone or download the airline's official mobile app from either the Android Play Store or the iOS App Store. Mobile check-in is also available for 24 hours to an hour before the departure time. For passengers with checked baggage checking in online or through the mobile app, check your bags at the bag drop counter at least 60 minutes before your scheduled departure.

Thai Airways has three travel classes on international flights and two travel classes on domestic flights. For Economy Class, the airline boasts of an economy seat that offers wider room and a generous legroom compared to other airlines. All seats are equipped with in-seat touch screen monitors. The airline's Royal Silk Class or Business Class offers its passengers comfort and convenience during the flight. In their newer aircraft, business class seats transform to 180-degree fully flat beds while on older aircraft, it reclines comfortably between 160-170 degrees. All seats also come equipped with 15 to 16 inch flat screens as well as USB and PC power points. Meanwhile, Royal First Class passengers will enjoy the luxurious cabins and private seats that offer the utmost comfort during the flight. First Class passengers will be provided with a spacious 8-feet long semi-private suite that comes with fully flat beds that recline 180 degrees and 21 to 27 inches in width. These suites come with interactive 23-inch flat screen monitors, storage compartments and in-seat power.

In-flight services

Thai Airways offers complimentary in-flight meal service on all flights. They offer a selection of the best local Thai cuisine as well as modern Western fare. Beverages and snacks may also be available throughout the flight. The airline also has a current in-flight entertainment system that is loaded with over 1,000 hours' worth of the latest Hollywood movies, popular TV programs as well as an extensive music library and interactive games. Onboard Wi-Fi connection is available on selected flights and powered by Panasonic and SITAONAIR for a nominal fee.
