Air Canada is the largest airline and national carrier in Canada. Founded as Trans-Canada Airlines in 1937, the airline was created by the country's federal government. It was renamed to the current name of Air Canada in 1965 and privatised in 1988. Air Canada is headquartered in Montreal in Quebec, Canada and has the following airports as its primary hubs, Calgary International Airport, Montréal-Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport and the Vancouver International Airport.

Since its founding, Air Canada has grown to a fleet size of over 170 aircraft operating flights to 350 destinations including those operated by its subsidiaries – regional airline, Air Canada Express and Air Canada Rouge; a carrier focused on vacation and leisure travel. Air Canada is a founding member of the global airline alliance, Star Alliance, along with Air New Zealand, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and much more. The airline also has codeshare agreements with other airlines including Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways and Jet Airways.

Air Canada is one of the 20 largest airlines in the world and has won as the Best Airline in North America by the Global Traveller-GT Tested Awards and as Best North American Airline for Business Class Service and Best North American Airline for International Travel by the Business Traveler Magazine.

Air Canada currently does not operate direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to any destination. It does, however, operate many connecting flights. Some of the more popular routes from Kuala Lumpur include flights to Vancouver via Hong Kong, flights to Seattle through Tokyo and Vancouver, and flights to Calgary via Tokyo.

How to Check In

Air Canada offers its passengers various ways to check-in for flights. Passengers can choose any of the options available for their convenience and comfort. Whichever the check-in process, all passengers should have their travel documents and booking reference or frequent flyer member number ready. Some services available at check-in include purchasing of standard or preferred seats, paying for additional baggage, purchasing upgrades and of course sending boarding passes to mobile devices.

The web and mobile check-in with Air Canada are available 24 hours up to 20 to 60 minutes before scheduled departure time. Passengers on domestic flights need to check-in 45 minutes before, international passengers including flights to the United States need to check-in at least 60 minutes before while passengers on flights from the Billy Bishop

Toronto City Airport will only need to check-in at least 20 minutes before the departure time. Checking in at the airport using the self-serve kiosks can check-in from 12 hours’ up to the same check-in deadline detailed above.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

Baggage allowance and baggage fees on Air Canada flights will vary depending on the flight route, travel class and frequent flyer member status. Generally, for domestic flights, Economy Class passengers would need to pay USD26.25 (MYR115) for the first bag and USD36.75 (MYR162) for the second bag. Premium Economy, Premium Rouge and Business Class passengers are allowed to check-in up to 2 bags for free. For all travel classes, each additional bag on top of the first two bags will be charged USD105 (MYR462) each.

Each bag should not exceed the maximum linear dimension of 158 centimetres or 62 inches. For Economy and Premium Economy Class passengers, the maximum weight limit of each bag should not exceed 23 kilogrammes or 50 pounds while Premium Rouge and Business Class passengers can check-in up to 32 kilogrammes or 70 pounds. Excess and oversized baggage fees will apply.


Air Canada offers four types of cabin classes where availability may depend on the flight route and aircraft used. The four cabin classes on offer are – Economy, Premium Economy, Premium Route and Business Class. The seat configurations and features may also vary depending on the flight destination – whether it's an international, North American or Caribbean destination.

Generally, for Business Class, seats are 21 inches wide that lie flat 6'3" to 6'7" long. Seats may come with adjustable headrest, lumbar support and massage functions. Business Class passengers will also enjoy the added space with a large table and individual power supply and USB ports for charging of personal devices.

Premium Economy and Premium Rouge Class seats are comfortable with a 38-inch seat pitch and width of 19.5 to 20 inches. These seats may also come equipped with individual power supply and USB ports for charging as well as adjustable head and foot rest for added comfort.

Economy Class passengers will also find comfort with their seats that come with adjustable and foldable headrest as well as are equipped with in-seat power supply and USB port charging and single-pin audio jack for personal headphones. The cabin also has ambient mood lighting for a better experience to fight jet lag.

In-flight Services

Air Canada offers complimentary onboard dining for passengers. Economy Class passengers may enjoy hot meals accompanied with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Premium Economy, Premium Rouge and Business Class passengers will enjoy a personal dining experience with meals served on fine china, glassware and cutlery. Passengers can choose from a selection of hot meals as well as a range of beverages to choose from.

The airline also offers complimentary in-flight entertainment with a next generation system that is loaded with hours of the latest movies, popular programs and extensive music library. All travel classes will have personal monitors and TV screens for the best in-flight experience.
