Shanghai Airlines, a regional airline, based in Shanghai, is a subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines. The airline operates domestic and international services to 140 destinations. Shanghai Airlines is headquartered at the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport which is also its primary hub along with Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Since its launch, Shanghai Airlines has grown to an airline with a fleet size of over 85 aircraft servicing destinations across Asia including Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. The airline serves Malaysia from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Shanghai Airlines is an affiliate of SkyTeam under the membership of its parent company, China Eastern Airlines which is a full member of the global airline alliance. It also has codeshare agreements with China Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hong Kong Airlines and Korean Air.

Ways to Check-in

Shanghai Airlines offers passengers the option to check-in for flights online or via mobile phone. This is recommended by the airline to avoid the long queues and waiting time at the airport. Online check-in is available from 48 hours up to 90 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Please note that online check-in is only available from 8 AM. Availability of online check-in may also vary depending on the airport of departure. In certain airports, passengers who check-in online or through mobile phone may need to print or claim their boarding passes at the airport.

If unable to check-in online, passengers may proceed directly to the airport and check-in at the airport counters. It is recommended to arrive at the airport at least 2 to 3 hours before the scheduled departure time to have ample time for the check-in, security and immigration procedures.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Shanghai Airlines offers complimentary baggage allowance. Restrictions may vary depending on the flight route and booked travel class. It is best to check the airline’s official website or your travel agent for the latest information.

For most international and regional flights, Shanghai Airlines allows Economy Class passengers to check-in up to 20 kilogrammes, Business Class passengers up to 30 kilogrammes while First Class passengers are allowed to check-in up to 40 kilogrammes per piece. Each luggage should not exceed to the total linear dimension of 158 centimetres or 62 inches. Excess baggage fees will apply.

For hand carried or cabin baggage, Economy and Business Class passengers are allowed one hand carried bag not exceeding 10 kilogrammes in weight and 115 centimetres or 45 inches in dimension. First Class passengers are allowed to carry up to two bags not exceeding 10 kilogrammes per piece.

Seating

Shanghai Airlines offers passengers three travel or cabin classes – Economy, Business and First Class. Availability of these cabins will vary depending on the flight route and aircraft.

Economy Class passengers will be comfortable in seats that are 17 inches wide and have a seat pitch of 32 to 33 inches. Business Class passengers will enjoy the wider seat option of 23.6 inches and a seat pitch of 75 inches. Meanwhile, First Class passengers will enjoy the luxury of extra-wide seats 26.5 inches wide and having a seat pitch of 79 inches.

In-flight Services

Shanghai Airlines offers complimentary meals as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on all flights. Special meals may also be requested before the scheduled flight departure.

Shanghai Airlines also offers complimentary in-flight entertainment. On long-haul flights, Economy, Business and First Class passengers will have personal in-seat screens equipped with an on-demand system with the latest movies, popular TV programmes and music. Seats also come equipped with personal AC power ports.

For short-haul flights, shared overhead TV screens are available in Economy Class. Some select flights may not have in-flight entertainment available. Business Class passengers will have personal AC power ports in their seats.
