Why Fly with British Airways

How to Check In

British Airways provides its passengers several ways of checking in for their flights for their convenience and if they choose, from the comfort of their home. The airline recommends, to avoid long lines and waiting at the airport, to check-in online through their official website or their mobile application. Online and mobile app check-in services are available 24 hours before the scheduled departure time. Should you choose to check-in online, a boarding pass will be issued where you can print at home or one of the airport kiosks. If checking in through the app, boarding passes will be downloaded within the app. For those passengers who choose to check-in at the airport, self-check-in kiosks are also available at selected airports.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

British Airways offers complimentary baggage allowance on their flights. Checked baggage allowance depends on various factors such as the flight route booked, cabin class and frequent flyer membership. For most flights, Economy Class are allowed to check in up to one piece of luggage not exceeding the maximum weight of 23 kilogrammes or 51 pounds. Premium Economy passengers are allowed up to two pieces of luggage also not exceeding the maximum weight of 23 kilogrammes or 51 pounds. Business Class passengers are also allowed up to two pieces of luggage but have an extra weight allowance up to 32 kilogrammes or 70 pounds per piece. Lastly, First Class passengers are allowed to check-in up to three pieces of luggage not exceeding 32 kilogrammes or 70 pounds per bag. There are extra baggage allowances for Oneworld and British Airways Executive Club members.

British Airways offers four cabin classes – Economy, Premium Economy, Business Class and First Class. Availability of cabin classes varies depending on the flight route. For long haul flights, all cabin classes are available for purchase. Short-haul and mid-haul flights only offer Economy and Business Class. Passengers can reserve their seats through the airline's official website. Seat selection may be free or come with a nominal fee depending on the booked fare class. This can be checked by managing your booking online. Usually, if a Basic Ticket were booked – which is in Economy Class with hand baggage only – you would need to pay to reserve a seat. Prices can range from GBP7 to GBP55 (MYR39 to MYR304).

Inflight services

For short haul flights, British Airways does not offer complimentary food and beverage for Economy Class passengers. However, the airline has partnered with Marks & Spencer to offer a selection of savoury and sweet treats for sale. Meanwhile, Business Class passengers will be offered complimentary meals and snacks depending on the length of the flight. For long haul flights, British Airways does offer complimentary food and beverage on all flights and cabin classes. If you are a picky eater, you can opt to pre-order your meal online. Economy Class passengers will have to pay an additional fee for this service which is available from 30 days up to 24 hours before your scheduled departure. If not selected, a complimentary standard meal will still be offered onboard the flight. All other cabin classes can also pre-order their meals but at no extra charge.
